The San Rustico wine production lineage can be traced as far back as 1870, when Grandfather Luigi began cultivating and pressing grapes on his first property, Gaso, located in Marano, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. Today our winery still resides in this historic area, and is set in 22 hectares (about 53 acres) of its own abundant vineyards that languish across some of the best appointed slopes of the region, namely those around Valgatara, Marano and Fumane.
The Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone grape varieties essential to the production of Amarone Recioto and Valpolicella wines are subject to and surpass strict government requirements for their "classic" designation, issued under the trading standard known as DOC. (controlled Designation of Origin)Danilo inherited the estate and was singled out for high praise by the internationally recognised wine publication" Decanter" as belonging to a select group of prestigious producers, responsible for the ever-burgeoning reputation that the wines of the Valpolicella enjoy, and so rightly deserve.
Today Danilo still produces wine with the same abiding passion as their Grandfather, himself a well known ambassador for the area's wines as his winning of the Copenhagen gold wine medal in 1908 proves.
A genuine love of and dedication to the earth and the constant effort exerted in the refining process to produce top quality wines form the heart of this family tradition and now well into its fourth generation. It is the sole aim of San Rustico to produce astonishing wines in accordance with their long and historic wine heritage. We take meticulous care over all aspects of production including the use of only natural fertilizers and a cluster thinning method to greater enhance the depth of each wine, as well as the natural drying of selected grapes and aging in special oak casks. From the grapes in the vineyard to the glass in your hand our goal here at San Rustico has always been excellence. We feel it is being achieved.
