"La Giribaldina" produces quality wines in Calamandrana in the South Asti Monferrato area, one of the most beautiful hill-belts of Piedmont. The winery was established in 1995 following structural work to restore the original Giribaldi farmhouse and is now run by the Colombo family, coming from Lombardy. Outside help is given by agronomist Piero Roseo, who also oversees the planting of new vineyards, and since 2003 enologist Beppe Caviola.
The estate currently owns 10 hectares of vineyards set in the villages of Calamandrana and Vaglio Serra. Our "crus" are Bricco Castellaro and Monte del Mare, both located in the Val Sarmassa Nature Reserve between the towns of Vinchio and Vaglio Serra. In Calamandrana village there are Moscato and Sauvignon vineyards and also an old Barbera vineyard .
The leading wine is Barbera d'Asti, with its unique character and the features of the great international grape varieties. Another typical grape variety of this region is Moscato bianco. The ancient method of grape over-ripening, once used in canelli and nowadays almost forgotten, has been rediscovered for the making of the "passito", an excellent wine "for thought". The choice of the Sauvignon variety has proven successful, since it exploits the characteristics of the "white soils" of Calamandrana at best. The estate current production approximates 55,000 bottles a year.
