The agricultural farm Meirana stretches for 98 hectares of which 44 hectares are vineyards specialized in Cortese vines and 3 in red berry grapes vines. The plant system is the traditional "Guyot". The name Meirana is connected to the story of Gavi itself. As a matter of fact the first document where the name Meirana appears is kept in the state Archives in Genova and there vineyards and chestnut woods on the spot called Meirana are mentioned.
The Gavi La Meirana was served on the Vatican tables during the celebrations for the 25 years of Pope John Paul II's pontificate and offered during the official banquets in the seats of several Italian Embassies.
The first bottles were put on the market in 1974, which was the same year that could vaunt the controlled denomination of origin (D.O.C.). Later, by means of gradual and well planned investments, the farmhouses on the estate were restructured. In 1982 the new wine making cellar was created and in the year 2000 it was enlarged and reorganized.
The most prestigious wine produced is the Gavi D.O.C.G. di Gavi Bruno Broglia which comes from the vineyards planted in 1953 and 1955. The yield of these vineyards over the years has been, on average, from 30 to 40 quintals per hectare. The harvest is kept in fruit-boxes, after the best grapes have been chosen. Another cru produced on the farm comes from the vineyard Villa Broglia whose name it carries.
A fine sparkling D.O.C.G. wine called Roverello is also produced. From the grapes of the red-berry vineyards a Red Monferrato-wine called Bruno Broglia is vinified after a special selection of the grapes. It is then bottled after being refined in eighteen month-old barrels. Another red Monferrato D.O.C. wine called Le Pernici is also produced following a special wine-processing procedure.Other products from Meirana are the Spumante Extra-Brut produced by the traditional classic method in small quantity and bottled in high yield years.
