Etna Rocca d'Api winery started up from Prof. Eugenio Castorina, man of enthusiastic temperament and very fond cultivator of grapes and wines, who in this right spirit put life into his first wine.He intended to keep, develop and promote the territory of origin, and to support and expand the local species of vine in order to obtain wine grapes that cannot be equalled. So it was created a wine that is expression of its territory, mineral flavouring, with its own sharp personality, elegant and with a complex taste. For our vine-growing and wine-producing idea we are firmly convinced that the territory is a strength point that made the vines more valuable, also creating new gastronomic and cultural routes relating the wine to local history, tradition and gourmet food.Etna Rocca d'Api is located in Zafferana Etnea, little town at the slopes of the volcano Etna. The species of grapevines cultivated are: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Carricante, Catarratto, Moscatella dell'Etna. To get ahead with the territory means also to improve the cultivation process of the vines, and consequently to get better grapes and wine: just improving growing and development of the vines and its fruits, it will be get the best wine, without any technical or technological support in the winery.
Our aim: to make the most of what soil, sun and rain put at our disposal, to select leaven from the vineyard of origin, to product unequalled wines, carefully respecting the natural environment where grapes and wine were born and developed.
