L'Aquila and its province

Description

The province of L'Aquila is the largest one in the whole region, rich in beautiful mountains and picturesque villages, set over impervious massif or along plateaus and valleys, like an uninterrupted sequence of images that constantly change with the various natural environments.
The largest part of four Natural Parks spreads out in the territory of this province: "Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park", "Gran Sasso National Park", "Majella National Park" and "Sirente-Velino Regional Natural Park".
Abruzzo's gastronomy is rich in local specialties, such as the red garlic from Sulmona, the famous "confetti" (delicious sugar coated almonds) from Sulmona, goat cheeses, lentils from Santo Stefano di Sessanio, mortadella from Campotosto and other salami and cheeses. Do not miss to taste also Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC wine and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC wine.
