Salerno d'autore homepage previous text

The province of Salerno is the largest one of the Campania region and together with the Divine Amalfi Coast, the archaeological areas of Paestum and the uncontaminated Cilento, it also includes the high plains crossed by the Sele River and the Vallo di Diano.
It is rich in cultural and architectonic masterpieces of great value (such as, San Lorenzo's Certosa at Padula, the Greek temples at Paestum, San Matteo's Cathedral in Salerno, the Abbey of the Holy Trinity at Cava de' Tirreni), but also in many oeno-gastronomic specialties: the San Marzano tomato DOP (Denomination of protected origin), the "red gold" of Campania, is probably one of the ingredients most closely associated with the Mediterranean diet, intended as healthy eating; the Buffalo Mozzarella Cheese, produced in the Sele Plains following unchanged centuries-old traditions. Without forgetting the soft and thornless Paestum artichoke, the Giffoni nut IGP and the delicious extra-virgin olive oil from Cilento.
Art, culture, craftwork and a renowned oeno-gastronomic tradition are waiting for you in the province of Salerno!
