Description

The name is the union of "Mons" (mountain) and "cinisia" (ash, for the grey color of the rocks). Located in the province of Turin, in Val di Susa, on the ancient route to the eponymous hill, not far from France, Montcenisio, completely surrounded by a wonderful mountain environment, at 1460 meters, is one of the smallest mountain villages in Piedmont. The town developed around the parish church and is characterized by the presence of beautiful sundials, the territory is washed by the waters of the river Cenischia. The unspoilt nature, the two beautiful lakes not far from the center, the numerous trails, ideal for hiking and mountain biking in the Summer and snowshoeing in Winter, climbing, waterfall ice routes and alpine skiing make this area attractive for tourists in all Seasons.
Since the XVI century the town has always been linked to the Mont Cenis pass, due to its strategic location for the transportation of people and goods between France and Italy. During the middle of the XIX century it became an important resort thanks to the presence in the territory of four prestigious hotels.

Not to miss:

- the Parish Church entitled to St. George dating back to the VII century, it features a single nave and a tower surmounted by a spire and four pinnacles and enriched by a large clock. The portal is enriched by a remarkable high relief depicting St. George slaying the dragon. Behind the altar is placed a table in Baroque style adorned by Corinthian columns
- the Chapel of St. Joseph in the historical center.
- the Chapel of St. Anthony.
- the Chapel of Santa Barbara, a small building of great simplicity.
- the Chapel of St. Pancrazio.
- the fortifications, installations and shelters scattered throughout the territory made between 1880 and 1940 to defend the Italian borders.
- the old Bakery and the old Mill.
- the ancient Ash Tree.
