The origins of the town's name are uncertain and there are several thesis on this subject: for some historians, the most reliable result is that it derives from the Latin person's name "Enno" and the German one "Eniko". Municipality in the province of Vicenza, located on the edge of the Valsugana area, the territory of Enego is on the border with Trentino Alto Adige. The location of the center makes it particularly active in terms of trade and tourism, as, from here, it is easy to reach the various ski resorts of the Veneto and Trentino.
Important archaeological finds in the area attest to the presence of settlements since Prehistoric times. Enego was colonized by the Romans and it assumed considerable importance during the Imperial Ages. After the Fall of the Empire the center was easy prey for the invading populations from Eastern and Northern Europe. It later was a member of the Regency of the Seven Towns, a small autonomous confederation, that established in 1310, lasted until 1807 with its laws and separate government from the rest of the other localities of the Vicenza area. In the XV century, even though under the domain of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, it kept its autonomy and integrity. This period was very prosperous for the town and submitted a certain development. The following history and events are common to the whole province under the Austrian rule.
Attractions:
- the Parish Church of Santa Giustina, with its classical forms, is preceded by a long flight of steps, chanting and prolonging the time needed to reach it, makes it seem, in a certain way, unreachable. It features a white façade surmounted by a pediment and enriched with columns, friezes and niches with statues. On the roof in a central position there is a dome. The high and soaring Bell Tower can be clearly distinguished between the houses in the center. Recently built in stone white, between the '40s and '50s of the XX century, flanks the church and features semi-reinforcing angles and frames, in which there are windows on each side and small pointed arches. It is complemented by a belfry on which stands a tall, narrow spire;
- the Lisser Fortress built during the First World War on the mountain that has the same name;
