ANDREA POZZO: Il Trionfo dell'Illusione
December 20, 2009
- April 30, 2010
The Saint Francisco Saverio church in Mondovì has been reopened disclosing again its former beauty and the masterpieces of Andrea Pozzo (1642-1709).
The great restoration, fully financed by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo with more than 3 million Euros participation, is gradually bringing back the 17th century decoration, removing the previous restorations works and giving back the original beauty of the church.
"The triumph of the illusion", is an experience before being an exhibition. This event gives the chance to visit the church that is at the same time a restoration and a building site. The visitors can observe the restorers at work, going up onto the scaffolds and having the chance to see the frescoes at close. The tour guide will go together with the visitors, following a course made up in several episodes, which reaches its peak with the climbing to the cupola.
Inside the winter chapel there is a multimedia center, which can be really considered as a real research image laboratory. The small place, once the sacristy and now used for the event occasion, will be darkened and the spectators will be involved in a vortex of sounds and images and transported really into the Andrea Pozzo's frescoes. All this is following the belief of the founder father of the Saint Ignazio of Loyola Order, according to who the vision and the imagination were the path for the salvation of the spirit.
